What are the benefits of a lash lift?

If you've never had a lash lift before, you could be missing out on one of the hottest beauty trends!  This treatment does wonders for the eyes and is super low maintenance.  It gives you the appearance of beautiful fanned out, black lashes and gently 'lifts' your eyes.  Most people don't even need to wear mascara because of the tint (which is optional).  No need to curl your lashes anymore.

How does a lash lift work?

The chemical process for a lash lift are mainly the result of 2 main balms.  The first balm is called the 'Lifting Balm'.  It breaks down the disulphate bonds which allows your lashes to move into a new shape.  The second balm is called the 'volumizing fix' it reforms the disulphate bonds into their new shape which helps your lashes to stay long and lifted.  The length of time for the 2 balms depends on the thickness of your lashes.

Before the process can begin, the size of the shield is the first thing that needs to be determined.  The bigger the shield, the softer the lift/curl.  The large size is great for those that have very curly lashes as it can straighten them out or calm down the curl.  Medium size shields are great for most people.  Small size shields give the strongest lift/curl.

After the appropriate shield is chosen, it's time to apply the bonding gel. The bonding gel helps to 'bond' the shield to your eyelid and then your eyelashes to the shield.  This part of the process usually takes the longest because bonding your lashes to the shield needs to be done meticulously.  If your lashes aren't perfectly fanned onto the shield, that will affect the final result.

The next part of a lash lift is the Lifting Balm.  It does have a chemical smell and reminds me of getting a hair perm.  The length of time this stays on mainly depends on the thickness of your lashes.  The thicker they are, the longer the balm stays on.  For example, if your lashes are fairly thick, the balm will stay on for about 13-14 minutes. If your lashes are thin, the balm will stay on for about 11-12 minutes.

The next balm is the Volumizing Fix and it helps the eyelashes to fix into place.

If you've opted for the tint as well, this would be next step.  Most people get the blue/black lash tint but brown and soft black are also available.  This is left on the eyelashes for about 3-5 minutes.  It doesn't take long for this to develop.

The moisturising serum is the last step.  It helps to nourish the lashes and is also used to ease your eyelashes away from the shield and the shield away from your eyelids.  It also conditions, promotes healthy hair growth, boosts moisture content, and relieves hair stress.

The process of a lash lift is completely painless and generally takes 45 minutes to an hour.

If you want your lashes to stay long and lifted, you need to follow the aftercare 100%.  The first 48 hours are crucial and can have detrimental effects if not followed properly.

  • Do not get your eyelashes wet for the first 24 hours
  • For the next 48 hours, do not steam your face, have a steam bath/shower, swim or wash your face with hot water.
  • Do not use waterproof mascara (use a water-based one)
  • Use oil-free removers on the eyes
